Intimacy with a dash of elegance is the feel for Paul McCartney’s upcoming nuptials to fiancée Nancy Shevell. The wedding, taking place this weekend at McCartney’s farmhouse in England is the first of two celebrations the couple has planned. A source tells UsMagazine.com, “It will be a small intimate wedding.  It’s going to be very elegant and classic.” With an engagement ring worth $650,000, it’s no surprise that the pair’s up close and personal ceremony will be nothing short of sophistication. Hopefully McCartney’s third marriage holds, as he’s dealt with the death of one spouse and an extremely public divorce with the other.

Eva Longoria is speaking out against long engagements.  The Desperate Housewives actress says, “I never believe in long engagements.  People think engagement is another step. It’s not another step. At the end of the seventh season of the reality TV show The Bachelorette, Ashley Hebert chose J.P. Rosenbaum and accepted his heartfelt marriage proposal. Now that the celebrity couple is preparing to walk down the aisle, Rosenbaum has one last family member to win over: Hebert’s pet yorkie, Boo. After they met for the first time earlier this month, the pint-sized puppy got better acquainted with Rosenbaum and the two seemed to be well on their way to a great relationship. “They’re good. Megan Fox definitely wants to start a family … just not right now, according to UsMagazine.  The 25-year-old actress who co-parents her husband Brian Austin Green’s 9-year-old son said, “I absolutely want biological children.  I’ve always wanted kids.  It’s just about the timing.”  She explained that they are waiting to be financially stable before starting a family.  “I have it in my mind about what amount of money I want in the bank so that I can protect that child’s future, and really protect it, so that kid never struggles,” she said.  “Once I feel safe with that, then I’ll have kids.”

Upon receiving a Mountain Rescue Team Land Rover as a wedding gift, Prince William and Kate Middleton passed it on as charity to the Mountain Rescue England and Wales. Our present vehicle only has a shelf life of about six months and we were embarking on a major fundraising exercise to raise more than £45,000 to replace it,” said Keith Montgomery, honorary secretary of Glossop Mountain Rescue Team.

As Labor Day weekend wrapped up, we were all treated to a suspense-filled episode of Bachelor Pad 2!  During the episode, viewers witnessed a strategic challenge, romantic fireworks between Michelle and Graham, Erica’s over-the-top overtures towards Blake, and a final showdown between Blake/Erica and Kirk/Ella.  To make sense of this crazy installment of summer’s guiltiest pleasure, we spoke to David Good and Natalie Getz, winners of Bachelor Pad 1.

Michelle and Graham’s relationship took a big step forward this week — were you surprised they won the competition, given they have not been together for that long?  What did you think about their strategy during the game?

When we meet someone new, we immediately form a tentative picture of his or her personality.  We generate this first impression in a matter of seconds, because we need it to guide our initial give and take.

Our amazing ability to rapidly size people up works so well that we continue to rely on it as we get to know the person better.  In doing so, we keep building a more elaborate intuitive impression—an impression that we rarely bother to consciously examine.  Although we may spend hours methodically assessing a new smartphone before deciding what we think of it, our assessment of someone’s personality keeps being made by the seat of our pants.

There are times, though, when we want to consciously think over what we’ve observed.  We may, for example, want to figure out if a person we are dating has the right stuff for a permanent relationship by discussing it with our friends.  But these conversations are often uninformative because few of us have been taught a systematic way to assess personalities.  This limits our ability to come up with a thoughtful appraisal of the person we have in mind, even with the assistance of those who are eager to help us.

It’s official!  Russian musician Oksana Grigorieva accepted last week’s truce deal — worth $3 million — with Mel Gibson, RadarOnline.com reports.  A forensic accountant analyzed this deal with the $15 million settlement from 2010.  “The previous offer was structured in a way that made its value less than $1 million,” her lawyer Daniel Horowitz said.  “Moreover, it required Oksana to surrender to Gibson all evidence in the criminal case against her, which could have made her subject to criminal charges ranging from bribery to destruction of evidence.”  Grigorieva’s lawyers value the present settlement, which includes 16 years living rent free in a $1.8 million home, $750,000 in periodic payments, payments to attorney fees and rights to her album and videos, “at over $3 million.”

After a year of planning, Lauren Bush, the niece of former president George W. Bush,  and David Lauren, the son of fashion designer Ralph Lauren, finally tied the knot.  The couple were wed at the massive Double RL Ranch in Colorado, reports People.  The ranch, named for Ralph Lauren and his wife Ricky Lauren, covers 17,000-acres of land in the Rocky Mountains.  Though the ceremony was on Sunday, the entire weekend was devoted to family activities such as picnics, softball and rodeos.  Lauren Bush faced a tough decision when it came to choosing her married name, but finally settled on Lauren Bush-Lauren, choosing to both take her husband’s name and avoid confusion.
