Ashley Hebert looked forward to introducing Ben Flajnik and J.P. Rosenbaum, the final two contenders on The Bachelorette season 7, to her family. Her whole family loved Flajnik, but Rosenbaum didn’t have the same luck. In fact, her sister was especially disapproving of her relationship and love with the contestant. The Bachelorette star told People, “What bothered me the most was not that she didn’t approve but how aggressive and unsupportive she was. All I needed at this point was someone to be supportive of whatever I was feeling…and she wasn’t.” Although she was crushed by her sister’s reaction, Hebert decided to take her opinion with a grain of salt: “I used her uncertainty to make me ask the questions I was scared to ask but by no means did it change the way I felt about him.” Hebert followed her heart and recently celebrated her celebrity engagement with Rosenbaum.

Okay, okay…I’ll admit it. I’m a reality TV junkie. I LOVE watching the train wrecks, drama, and outright ridiculousness that has become entertainment. Sometimes, though, a show truly hits a chord. I was watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians and stumbled upon the episode where Kris is pushing Kourtney and Scott to get married … But they don’t want to tie the knot.
This may seem strange to you, but it really irked me that their mom, Kris, was pushing the issue. Now, I’m all about weddings. It’s what I love to write about, talk about and blog about, but sometimes weddings are not the best thing. Take Kourtney and Scott, for example. If her mom wants a commitment, why not have a commitment ceremony instead of a wedding? You can still have the dress, the big bash and the DJ without ending up with a legally binding piece of paper.

It’s official! Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnilo have agreed to have their wedding recorded live, according to UsMagazine.com. However, Lachey admits that having cameras at their wedding wasn’t an easy decision. “We kind of wrestled with that for a while, for obvious reasons,” he told reporters Saturday during his bachelor party at TAO in Las Vegas. “Having done reality TV in the past, I didn’t necessarily want to jump right back into it without having thought it through to great length, and we did.” A reason the singer agreed to have cameras on his special day was because they weren’t going to stay there for long. “It’s a one-off special; a chance to kind of have a great experience and a great moment in our lives documented on TV, and also for us, to have a great wedding video at the end of it,” he said of their TLC wedding special, which will be broadcast shortly after the couple swaps vows.

New York is wearing a new face of liberty. On Friday, June 24, 2011 the Empire State became the sixth and largest state in the union to legalize gay marriage. After a long battle, Governor Andrew Cuomo passed the vote 33-29. As the leader of the campaign to legalize same sex marriage in his state, Cuomo was determined to get this law passed. For Cuomo, it was not solely about politics. According to The New York Times, his girlfriend, Sandra Lee, has a gay brother. So this issue hit very close to home. “Same sex marriage is at the heart of leadership and progressive government,” said Cuomo. “I have to do this.”
Gay couples can now look towards a bright future. Getting married is a stamp that symbolizes solidity, strength, and everlasting love. No longer will the gay couples of New York feel a sense of legal doubt when it comes to the validity of their relationship. “It makes you feel like we’re equal,” said 45-year-old Tim Ford. He is now engaged to marry his companion of 18 years, Michael Beltran. “We can celebrate with friends in New York and not have it be, in some people’s eyes, not recognized,” said Ford.
