Actress Katie Holmes has been in the spotlight since she was 20 years old. Born the youngest of five children in Toledo, Ohio on December 18, 1978, she initially rose to fame for her role as Joey Potter on The WB TV drama Dawson’s Creek (1998-2003). She first appeared on the big screen in 1998 in the thriller Disturbing Behavior, which won her an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakout Performance. She went on to appear in many other films, including Wonder Boys (2000), The Gift (2000), Pieces of April (2003), and Batman Begins (2005).
Katie Holmes is equally famous for her celebrity marriage to actor Tom Cruise. The famous couple, who was nicknamed “TomKat,” were together from 2005 to 2012. Their celebrity relationship received lots of media attention due in part to Cruise’s affiliation with Scientology. During their celebrity marriage, Holmes began practicing the religion, and they were married in a Scientology ceremony in Bracciano, Italy on November 18, 2006. The actress gave birth to their daughter Suri earlier that same year. After five years of celebrity marriage, she filed for divorce from Cruise in June 2012. Sources close to her revealed that she was fearful that her celebrity ex would abduct Suri and also feared the reaction from the Church of Scientology. After their celebrity divorce, Holmes left Scientology. She now has custody of Suri, and the two live in New York City.
