Cupid's Pulse Article: Hollywood Actress and Socialite Alexandra DiNovi Opens Up For the First Time About Her Virginity and Saving Herself for LoveCupid's Pulse Article: Hollywood Actress and Socialite Alexandra DiNovi Opens Up For the First Time About Her Virginity and Saving Herself for Love

By Vicky Sullivan of Aspiring Socialite

It was only a few years ago when Hollywood actress and socialite, Alexandra DiNovi, was discovered in a restaurant in her hometown of Hinsdale, Illinois.  Soon after, she was dancing with Vince Vaughn in the poker scene of The Break-Up.  Having been romantically linked to celebrities, such as Jack Osbourne, DiNovi has a lot to say on Hollywood dating.  However, despite the temptation and appeal of the glamorous red carpet life, she remembers to stay true to herself and her values when it comes to relationships.

In 2010, DiNovi took home Best Actress at the New York Film Festival for  Purity: A Dark Film, a short film about virginity, sex, and emotion that she wrote, directed, and starred in. Seeing that art often imitates life, much of the film is based on real events in her life, including her virginity.  For the first time ever, this rising star is opening up about her very personal decision to remain pure and save herself for love.  As she explains it, “Love isn’t about sex; it’s about friendship and respect.”

How much of your personal life was incorporated into the film Purity?

Most of it was completely true.

I heard you wear a purity ring.  Can you tell us more about it?

I bought myself a purity ring the week before I moved to L.A. I had it shipped to myself because I wanted to remember to stay true to myself in L.A.  I wanted a constant reminder of who I am and what I believe in.  I was thinking I would be dating different types of guys, and I didn’t want to lose my virginity or myself to some random hot guy.

Why is saving yourself for love so important to you?

I think that my soul mate will appreciate me giving my body and soul to him.  He won’t be sharing me with anyone else.  When I do fall in love, I will love him unconditionally.

What advice would you give girls looking to save themselves for the right one?

What is the point of having sex without love?  That doesn’t even make sense to me.  Sex is a special gift, and it’s really supposed to be for marriage.  It is something that soul mates share.  I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I’ve been in love, so I understand how the rush feels.  I won’t settle for sex without love ever.  Self-control is underrated in our society.

How would you describe true love?

I’ve been in love once in my life, and it’s the best feeling in the whole world.  Sometimes, you can’t even eat.  It’s like an entire body high.  Love is patient.  True love is not about sex. It’s about friendship.  True love has to do with a genuine partnership where two people love unconditionally, forgive, and respect each other.   It has to do with listening and being there for each other always.

Who is your celebrity crush?

I have a few crushes, and I’m actually already talking to them.  The only other slight celebrity crush that I have is Ryan Phillippe.  He’s such a cool guy.  I admire him.  I also think he has a great work ethic, especially regarding health and fitness.  Ironically, I like bad boys.

What do you look for in a guy?

I like a guy who is genuine, athletic, and fun to be around.  He has to make me smile a lot.  I love a playful guy who I can laugh with.

What do you do to get ready for date and where do you like to go?

I work out, head to the steam room, get a few new dresses, get my hair and nails done, and assemble the perfect outfit (preferably with one of my gay friends).  I have two favorite “secret” spots where I like to go when I’m on a date in West Hollywood.  One is a private hotel and the other is a low key Italian restaurant that has a great vibe.

How do you keep yourself from giving into temptation?

It’s sometimes a challenge when guys who I admire want to hook up, and there’s nothing behind it.  I think that sex is empty without love.  I used to date this actor and he always told me that.  We’re still really close.  He said, “From my many sexual experiences, sex without love is meaningless.”  This is coming from an extremely attractive movie star.  He encourages me to wait for my soul mate.  Although, he often tells me he thinks we will end up together and that I am his ideal wife.  Who knows?  We might.
