Marriage isn’t just about the dress and a reception; it’s a union between two people.  While it’s healthy to have differences of opinion when it comes to the little things, you have to be on the same page when it comes to the fundamentals:

1. Kids: If one of you wants to have children and the other couldn’t be less interested in adding children to your lives, you are going to run into problems later.  Talk about this in-depth with your partner before taking the next step.

2. Finances: It is always important to be financially responsible.  But, that means different things to different people.  If you can’t come to an agreement on budgeting, consider separate bank accounts.

3. Home: People are often very attached to where they grew up.  If the two of you grew up in different places and each want to start a family in your perspective hometowns, this could mark the end of your relationship if you can’t compromise.
