Finding time to go out on dates with your spouse can be difficult. The both of you may have hectic work schedules that always seem to get in the way. And it is not just the two of you … the kids are also in the equation! No matter how hard you may try, planned or spontaneous dates rarely ever happen. Even if you do actually go out, you constantly find yourself worrying about the kids – is the babysitter reliable, what they are doing, and should you hurry back home. Well, fret no more! Cupid has 10 suggestions to help you and your spouse get away from your routine and schedule some date time for each other:

1. Every day alone time: Who says you can’t have a date every day of the week? Believe it or not, it’s possible! Join your partner in something that is a part of their daily routine, whether that means an early morning workout or late evening planning session. Quality time with your partner can make a huge difference, especially if you are doing something that brings you together at the start of each day and/or at the very end. Maybe even put the kids to sleep at an earlier time just to have that hour or so to wind down together.

2. Weekend getaways: A short vacation is not only what you may need individually, but also as couple. Work can definitely become overwhelming and you just want a day (or two, maybe three) to sit back and enjoy each other’s company, without the pressure and stress of work interfering. A trip to a cabin or a resort sounds nice, right?

3. Amusement park: Married couples tend to become accustomed to the the following routine: work, kids, sleep, repeat. Sometimes it’s easy to forget what fun feels like. An amusement park is a great place to channel your inner child. Take your spouse on a date to a nearby theme park – enjoy the roller coasters, attractions and games, but most importantly don’t forget to laugh!

4. Dance night: What better way to show off your moves than dancing? Schedule a night for dancing it up at your local club. Try something as sassy as salsa or as precise as square dancing. The goal in all of this is to simply have fun.

5. Fishing: Envision a nice day out by the lake, relaxing in a chair, with a fishing rod in the water awaiting a tug. Hardly any disruptions besides the noises of nature and sound of the water. You and your spouse will temporarily be worry-free.

Related Link: Date Idea: Hot or Cold Night

6. Park picnic: One of the most classic (romantic) dates of all time is a picnic in the park. Create a basket full of you and your partner’s favorites, maybe take an activity you will enjoy (frisbee, kites, etc), and voilà! Maybe even consider bringing the kids along and making it a family day.

7. Pick a hobby: Choose an activity that the both of you love to do together. Perhaps yard work, such as gardening or mowing, is therapeutic – use this as a bonding experience and call it a date!

8. Pamper & Polish: Every once in a while, your sweetheart deserves a little TLC (tender, love, and care). Why not be the one to give it to them? Schedule him/her a session at a local spa or create your own at-home spa. If you would rather channel your inner romantic and set up your own spa, here are a few tips: make sure the environment is set nicely – well-lit and scented, relaxing music, and full of peacefulness.  Then, give them the best massage they could possibly imagine (with the help of your favorite scented oil). They will appreciate the thought and touch.

Related Link: Date Idea: Be a “Cheap” Date

9. Comedy show: Laughter is good for the soul, right? Search for tickets to your favorite comedian’s show and ask your honey to join you for the night. Get a few laughs in while enjoying the evening.

10. Road trip: Hop in the car and GO! A road trip entails lots of jokes along the way, singing songs on the radio, sightseeing, etc. Make a day out of it – travel down the roads with the most scenery. Take photos to capture the memories and most importantly, enjoy the ride.

What are some ways to keep the spark in your relationship?

Cupid’s Advice:

When you first get together with someone, it’s new and exciting. But when you’ve been with the same person for a long time, you can sometimes fall into what feels like a rut. Relationships can constantly change, and being with your partner for a long time doesn’t mean you can’t still experience new and fun things. Cupid has some advice on some ways to keep the spark in your relationship:

1. Recreate your first date: It can be fun to go back to the beginning, experience things all over again, but also see how much things have changed. Memories are important things and some we will cherish and remember forever, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go back and relive them. It could be fun to go “back in time” for a night and recreate the magic all over again.

2. Try something new together: What makes the beginning of relationship so exciting is the fact everything is new. So, trying new things together will keep things fresh and the fires burning. Do something you both have talked about doing or haven’t done yet, try activities like skydiving or try traveling somewhere you’ve never been,  it doesn’t matter what you do just make it an adventure and something to remember.

3. Dress up for each other from time to time: Sure, you may already have that special someone in your life, but that doesn’t mean you should stop taking care of yourself or dressing up for them. Don’t just get all dolled up for date nights, try doing it sometime when you’re home and make a boring night turn into a romantic evening in. Having a little fun in your relationship, like dressing up for your beau, can help with keeping the passion alive between the two of you.

Cupid's Pulse Article: Source Shoots Down Kim and Kanye Marriage Rumors
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian shoot down marriage rumors. Photo: Janet Mayer / PRPhotos.com

By Louisa Gonzales

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are not married, yet. According to People, the rumors about the recent Vogue cover couple getting hitched in a secret ceremony over the weekend in Los Angles are false. A close family friend of Kardashian, 33, confirms this news, while the rapper’s reps have no comment about the gossip. West, 36, and the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star are set to tie the knot on May 24 in France at opulent Chateau Louis XIV.

What are some advantages of keeping your wedding under wraps?

Cupid’s Advice:

Planning to get married is an exciting time in any couple’s relationship, but it also can be stressful. Marriage is a big decision and commitment, so it can be nice to be able to share news of your engagement to people, however there’s nothing wrong with not saying anything about it until you’re ready. Cupid has some advice on some advantages of keeping your wedding under wraps:

1. It will make it more special: There’s something exciting about having something known just between you and your special someone. Holding onto information until you are ready, is not a bad thing, it can be a good thing in fact because it can help strengthen your relationship. Marriage is between you and your partner, no one else, sure you’re both becoming a part of each other’s families as well, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have things on your own.

Related: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Set a Wedding Date in Paris

2. You can make it your way: There’s a lot of time, energy and effort that goes into wedding planning, but also in other new life changing things like deciding living arrangements. So, it can be nice to get advice from others, such as friends and family sometimes, but not on everything, especially the big decisions. Just think the less people who know, the better chance you have at not getting influenced by other’s and actually making your dream wedding, not anyone else’s.

3. Less pressure: One big up sides of keeping your wedding under wraps is you won’t feel the pressure of others, which will in turn make things less difficult for you. Sometimes wedding planning can get stressful, especially when you’re worrying about other people’s expectations, when really you should just be focusing on yours and your better half. Don’t worry about what other people will think, about the wedding, your partner, your union, whatever, instead remember why you want to get married.

Jeanne looked at Barry at the other side of the couch in our office. She asked him if he remembered when they were first married and lived in a horrible one-bedroom apartment that barely had heat. Did he remember how each morning he would make her the worst coffee in the world, using a leaky filter and a banged up metal pot- how he would carry it to the bedroom while she was still just waking up? Barry nodded that he remembered. Jeanne continued to search his face, “Why is it that that coffee tasted so good to me and now we have the most expensive coffee-making contraption that money can buy, and I have to have my coffee just right, and I don’t even want you to touch the pot?”

“Marriage is about compromise; it’s about doing something for the other person, even when you don’t want to.”  – Nicholas Sparks, The Wedding

I had a great conversation with two friends, both widowed, the other day. They’re dating each other, and it’s starting to get serious. While not pointedly addressed quite yet, it’s clear that the “we should spend the rest of our lives together” conversation is not that far off in the future. How wonderful for them! To have found love again — and all the joy, happiness, and elation that comes with new love — after both having lost spouses is wonderful and very sweet to see. Of course, they should spend the rest of their lives together. Thank goodness for second chances and the fact that they met each other.

Nelly Furtado has worked with her husband, Demacio “Demo” Castellon for years now, and quite well. The couple has collaborated and produced two successful albums, Loose 2006 and the follow-up Mi Plan, Spanish-language album, 2009. Castellon reportedly admitted they make a good team, but according to People, Furtado explains, just because they work well together doesn’t mean its smooth sailings all the time. The singer went on to say they have a “healthy tension” when working together and how he helps “challenge” her as an artist. The lovebirds don’t work together all the time and have separate projects according to Furtado, but they will come together this year to work in the studio.

Cupid's Pulse Article: Top 3 Non-Negotiable Questions You Need to Think About Before Filing for Divorce
What to consider before filing for divorce. Photo: CandyBox Images / Bigstock.

Families come in all shapes and sizes. Some married couples live together with their children. When those children grow up and move out of their parents’ home, does that mean that they are no longer a family? Some married couples with children don’t live together because of their work commitments and for other such reasons. Does that make them any less of a family? Religious beliefs aside, some couples such as Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have children together, but were never married. Aren’t they still a family? Married couples with children sometimes divorce. Does that mean that they are no longer a family? If you think about it, the nature of their relationship changed from being married with children to being unmarried with children. I’m afraid that when a couple has children together, their marital status does not control their status as a family.

Many may define a “perfect” family as one in which the parents are married and in love with each other. I opted to use the word “perfect” because that was the term and definition used by a minor child of divorce, who was interviewed in a documentary film by Ellen Bruno titled “SPLIT.” While his family may not be “perfect,” as defined by him, I promise you he still considers it a family.

Just because love went wrong the first time doesn’t mean there isn’t hope for the future. This comes to mind as UsMagazine.com reports that Pete Wentz, ex-husband of Ashlee Simpson and father of her 5-year-old son, is possibly taking the next step with his current model girlfriend, Maegan Camper. Wentz and Simpson were married for three years before finalizing their divorce in November of 2011, and have both found new relationships since. When asked whether he plans to get married again, Wentz replied, “I think so. I mean, we talk about it a lot. I feel really lucky. It’s, like, really interesting [to be] in a relationship with someone who is truly my best friend. Like, I talk to her about everything. She will tell me when I’m being not so insane, and sometimes she’s like, ‘You’re being a little bit insane.’ It’s very helpful.”

By Maria Darbenzio

It’s the end of the holiday season, which also means that the new year has brought engagements and weddings to plan. The road to your big day may seem like a long one, but with a few tips, you can get through the journey without any major detours. CupidsPulse.com gathered these great articles from our partners to help you along:

1. Prioritize: The most important part of planning a wedding is choosing a date and budget. Without knowing the timing, you’ll be unable to pick out flowers, choose a color scheme, or decide whether your ceremony will be outdoors or indoors. In terms of budget, well, we all know that weddings can come with a hefty price tag if limitations aren’t set from the start. (GalTime.com)

2. Find inspiration: Writing your vows can be a fun opportunity to express your love in a unique way. If you are struggling with finding the right words, try some of these quotes on marriage to help move things along. (YourTango.com)

3. Seek comfort: What you’ll be wearing under your dress can be just as crucial as the dress itself. You’re going to be in your dress for the majority of the day, so comfort and functionality is what you’ll want to be looking for. There are tons of options available for the bride-to-be. Do some research on what’s available, and then you can try them on and get a feel for what’s best for you. (GalTime.com)

4. Talk honeymoon: Much like the wedding, honeymoons can leave your wallet looking a little barren. Talk to your significant other about what type of honeymoon you’d both enjoy and how much you’re willing to spend. If you’re a little lost, check out this list of destinations for a wide range of budgets. (YourTango.com)

5. Focus on the positive: It’s hard to stay away from news of divorce and separation of both celebrities and non-celebrities alike. Don’t let the negative news get you down! Focus on your relationship and take a look at couples who are happily married. On the other hand, those who have been divorced can give you some ideas of what causes a marriage fall apart.
